Tension Devices
Tensions devices are Child & Pet Safety Products that secure cord and chain loops from hanging loose, which would allow children and pets to become entangled in them.
There are several options when it comes to tension devices, however they all are similar in that they are mounted on the wall or window frame.
The lift cord or beaded chain that is used to operate the window covering is either looped through or tethered around the tension device, depending on the style.
Condensers
Certain Condensers are Child & Pet Safety Products that are designed as a breakaway point on the lift cord.
Condensers are used to gather multiple strands of lift cord in to one easy to grab area.
From within the condenser, the strands can continue through until the tassel at the end, or they can be tied off within the condenser and a different single strand can run the rest of the way to the tassel.
Motors
Converting manually operated blinds and shades to motorized systems completely eliminates the risk of hanging cords or chains around children and pets.
Often controlled by remotes, there are also electronic button wand options, or even wired through the wall to work from a switch.
Some blind and shade models of motors can even be converted to wind and solar power, plus daylight sensors to automatically raise or lower the blinds or shades.
Wands
Wands that fall under the Child & Pet Safety Products are the ones designed to house the pull cord or beaded chain inside/tucked close to the shaft.
This prevents the cord or beaded chain from hanging loose where it can come into contact with children or pets
Some models of wands are also electric with internal Li-Ion batteries that work with their complimentary blind and shade motor.
Retractable Clutches
Retractable Clutches, such as the Hunter Douglas UltraGlide are Child & Pet Safety Products by keeping cords out of reach from children and pets who would otherwise become tangled in them.
These types of clutches work by having an internal rewind spring that pulls the cord back into the clutch, very similar how a pull cord on power equipment works. They can be used with cord handles or wands.
